Touchstone is a unique three-seasons craft school located in the beautiful Laurel Highlands, only 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1972 as Pioneer Crafts Council, Touchstone's original mission was to foster interest in the preservation of traditional mountain crafts. Today, this unique craft school has expanded to include contemporary and experimental techniques in addition to traditional and historic methods in disciplines such as blacksmithing, ceramics, metals, textiles, glass, oil and watercolor painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.  As Pennsylvania's only residential craft school, Touchstone offers both beginners and seasoned artists more than one hundred week-long and weekend courses taught by some of North America's finest artists and artisans.

Image Transfer to Clay

Saturday, October 14, 2017 • 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Images, either hand-drawn or from a photograph, can be silkscreen printed onto newsprint and then transferred onto leather hard three-dimensional pottery. Talen Smith is a master at this process and will demonstrate her technique. Then participants will have an opportunity to silkscreen and transfer an image to their own leather hard pottery or slab. This workshop will be hands-on and each participant is encouraged to bring some leather hard pieces to transfer images onto. Slabs will be provided for participants who do not bring their own work.
