Touchstone Artist of the YearCelebrating Bridget Mayak
Touchstone is proud to honor Bridget Mayak as its 2010 Artist of the Year! Join us Saturday, August 7, for a celebration in her honor.
Bridget Mayak is Touchstone's well-deserved Artist of the Year. An art graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Bridget is currently an elementary school art teacher in the Somerset school district and manager of Sarah's Studio, home to Touchstone's children's program. In 2008, the Pennsylvania Art Education Association named Bridget the Pennsylvania Outstanding Art Educator of the Year. This year she was also named a "Woman of Distinction" by Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society of women educators. During her career, Bridget has nurtured the creative spirits of over 8000 young people! She recently helped initiate "Targeting Teens at Touchstone," a new program here at Touchstone.
Bridget's bond with Touchstone began 7 years ago in a pottery class with renowned potter Valda Cox- and since, she's taken more than 20 classes and "loved them all." Her favorite mediums are ceramics and metal sculpture, which she's learned to combine in her work, thanks to instructors at Touchstone.
Bridget is also known for her whimsical ceramic birds, featured in the Touchstone gift shop and others in the Laurel Highlands region.
The awardee says, "Touchstone instructors have taught me as much about the art of teaching as they have about art itself. The passion and dedication of the instructors, students, administrators, staff and board of directors makes Touchstone an incredible environment for learning, growing, and creating."
