Cyanotypes

This class will cover a range of techniques using a classic alternative photographic process, cyanotype printing. Topics include paper choice, making prints with objects, film, and digital negatives, as well as touching on more advanced topics like alternative development and printing surfaces such as wood and fabric.

Digital Photography & Photoshop
Robert Esquivel All Levels $225
So you got a new digital camera and you know how to turn it on, point, and shoot, but you are lost when it comes to histograms, JPEG, RAW and TIFF formats, white balance, and color corrections. This class will cover all this and more! In addition to lessons on better picture-making, we’ll discuss and implement rules of composition, and how to best approach subjects and assignments. You’ll have a great weekend getting to know all that your camera can help you achieve.

June 13 – 19                          
Pyro-Adventures in Large Format Black & White Photography
Richard Stoner All Levels $430
Materials Fee payable to Instructor: $100
Use the same type of film cameras used by Ansel Adams and Edward Weston along with Weston’s favorite developer to produce studding black and white prints. Pyro film developer, one of the oldest black and white developers, has gained a cult status in its ability to produce an amazing tonal scale in negatives. Students will be supplied 8x10”, 4x5”, and medium format cameras and film and complete instructions for use. All levels of experience will be accepted with an emphasis on directing students to see and compose more effectively with any camera. Field trips will be conducted of campus. The instruction will result in students producing a set of matted prints on fine art black and white printing paper using fine art toner. Students may bring their own cameras, but none is required. All materials will be supplied for a modest at-cost fee.

Pinhole Photography
Susan Wilson  Beginner $430
This is a class for all ages, and it's a great opportunity for kids to take a class with their parents or grandparents. Learn how to make your own pinhole camera that you will use to make exposures ranging from 5 seconds to 5 hours. A pinhole camera is a very simple camera with no lens. Simply explained, it is a light-proof box with a small hole in one side. Whether your interest is digital or film, gain awareness and understanding of the history and basics of photography through this class. Students' individual needs will be addressed as the workshop progresses.

July 4 – 10
Nature Photography
Christopher Rolinson All Levels $425
During this course you will learn a variety of landscape, nature and wildlife photography techniques including strategy, location scouting, high dynamic range imaging, and image preparation and presentation. Students will be required to have any digital SLR or Point and Shoot camera, a laptop computer with imaging software. Those students using film should be prepared to use 1-hour developing for digitalizing images.

Photojournalism
Christopher Rolinson Intermediate/Advanced $425
During this course you will learn photojournalistic image making and story telling techniques. This course will require the student to immerse themselves in the local communities to produce documentary images, essays and multimedia representing daily life there. Basic knowledge of camera techniques is highly recommended for this course. Students will be required to have any digital SLR or Point and Shoot camera, a laptop computer with imaging software. Those students using film should be prepared to use 1-hour developing for digitalizing images.
