Natural Dyeing with Paper and Cloth
Judy Dominic
All Levels | $200
Weekend Workshop
Nature has a lot to give in the way of color; sometimes it is not obvious or easily predictable. Using natural fiber cloth and clothing, and various papers, try your hand at contact dyeing via immersion as well as compost and rust dyeing via solar methods. Our dyestuffs will be what we find growing around us. It is always a surprise to discover what these fellow earth inhabitants offer with minimal chemicals involved.
Creating with fibers since 1979, Judy Dominic’s use of non-standard techniques, naturals, and odd, overlooked materials has become a signature. She teaches and exhibits regionally, nationally, and internationally; her fiber-related articles have been published in numerous national and international fiber art magazines. Judy has curated and juried exhibits as well as organized basketry and fiber conferences. A resident of southwest Ohio, she has been honored locally for her involvement in community arts and continues to promote fiber arts wherever and whenever possible. Her current work includes papermaking, book arts, natural dyeing, and stitching. Learn more about her work at

Students are welcome to work in studios after the posted workshop hours as long as the instructor or appointed staff member is present. Unfortunately, due to liability risks, students are not permitted to work in the studios without one of these forms of supervision. While staff members and instructors will often be found in the studio during evening hours helping students, they are not obligated to be present after the posted workshop hours. Students are also encouraged to participate in evening activities such as studio demonstrations and the Thursday evening auction. Touchstone asks that all students respect the campus-wide quiet time of 11:00 p.m.
