Intermediate* $100-$150 Materials and Studio Fees**
Learn how to forge and heat treat your own Viking-style bearded axe – first forging the tools needed to forge your axe. This workshop will start with the forging of a mandrel to form the axe eye and a pair of knee tongs that will aid in holding the axe head while working on it. The axe body will be folded around the mandrel, then forge welded together, followed by heat treating the blade. You will also be taught how to sharpen your axe and how to seat it properly on the wooden handle. You will come away with the physical tools needed to continue making axes in the Viking style, plus you will have gained the skills needed to make use of your tools.
*It will be especially helpful for participants in this workshop to have successfully forge welded at least once as well as having worked with a coal forge
**Materials and studio fees are charged to students based on studio usage and materials Touchstone is providing at the request of the instructor. Additionally, some instructors may also require that you bring certain materials and tools with you, in which case a list will be provided. Final cost of these fees will be posted at least two weeks ahead of the workshop to be paid in full prior to check-in.

- Any person forging tools you wish to use (Optional)
- Natural fiber clothing (Avoid Synthetics)
- Close toed Shoes
- Protective eyewear (Touchstone has safety glasses, but feel free to bring your own)
- Dust Mask
- Bandana/hat (Optional)
- Sketch book/notebook
