Fayette County Liberty Bell Unveiling Ceremony

Announcement: Touchstone Center for Crafts is creating a public artwork, a sculptural bell, to honor Fayette County, PA’s history as part of the statewide Bells Across PA initiative commemorating the U.S. Semiquincentennial in 2026. Each county in Pennsylvania will receive its own bell, and a statewide map will be available to guide visitors to each location. Learn more at america250pa.org
Unveiling Ceremony:

Place: Inside the Fayette County Courthouse

Public Viewing: The completed bell will be available for public viewing after the unveiling and throughout 2026 inside the Fayette County Courthouse in Uniontown, PA.

Project Details: Led by local artist James Mochnsky, assisted by four other artists associated with Touchstone. The bell design, titled Revolution to Resilience, features a spiraling ribbon motif tracing the Historic National Road and highlighting key historical moments, places, and figures.
Fayette County: The project is part of the Fayette County PA 250th celebration, which runs through July 4, 2026.
Historical and Cultural Significance: The project celebrates the region’s layered history, from Indigenous leadership to industrial growth, and aims to spark curiosity and pride in the community.
Research: Support and resources provided by the Uniontown Library and the Fayette County Historical Society.
Execution: Fabric samples, generously donated by Brenda Friday Design, are being carefully cut, appliquéd, and assembled in a layered, contour-style montage on the bell.
