Katy Dement

DeMent discovered handmade paper in 1989 at the China Exhibit, High Museum of Art, Atlanta. Profoundly influenced by this tactile and versatile medium, DeMent began a self-taught ongoing journey creating art works both functional and decorative. She has sustained herself with “paperwork” for over 36 years; her work is collected all over the world. This passion for handmade papers, primarily manufactured from recycled materials, vintage ephemera and invasive plants, continues to be influenced by her interest in visual narrative, history, and love of nature. DeMent infiltrated the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and obtained her Teaching Artist Certificate, From University of the Arts, Philadelphia. Her programs ignite the imaginations of students of all ages with her love of tactile creative processes throughout the region.
