Laura Mochales is a multidisciplinary artist and furniture maker whose practice bridges wood, metal, glass, and jewelry techniques. Guided by a deep curiosity for materials, she explores the intersections between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design, experimenting with innovative methods to bring color and narrative into functional objects.
Born in Chile and based between Latin America and the United States, she earned her BFA from Parsons School of Design in 2023. That same year, she served as the woodshop assistant at Peters Valley School of Craft. She has worked in multiple woodshop and metalshop settings, from wood and metal fabrication in New York, to jewelry design and fabrication in Chile, alongside projects in antique restoration and custom wood fabrication in Spain. She has participated in multiple residencies, including Haystack Open Studio Residency, Penland Winter Residency, Pocosin Arts, Touchstone Center for Crafts, and was awarded a fellowship at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship.
