Lisa Geertsen is an artist blacksmith from Seattle, WA. Her process is about making connections, telling a story, turning the ordinary into something beautiful through the metamorphic process of working with metal. With a BFA in sculpture from WVU, and an MFA from SIUC, she has taught blacksmithing at Pratt Fine Arts Center from 2007-2020 while managing their sculpture department from 2013-2020. She is the Sculpture Instructional Technician at the University of Washington and the owner of Firelight Forge. Her work is owned by private collectors and has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Her current body of work addresses the moments in time when we make the choice to be present – be it through the meditative process of forging, appreciating the sky and clouds, or a combination of both.
