Margaret Jacobs, Akwesasne Mohawk, is a metalsmith who creates fabricated steel sculpture and powder coated jewelry. Her works have strong narrative threads with imagery that centers the natural world, plants, and botanicals as kin, and her subject matter is based on cultural and personal stories. Jacobs is a 2022 Collective Spirit Fund Award through the First Peoples Fund and a 2023 Curatorial Research Fellow through ICI (Independent Curators International). She has participated in several artist residencies including at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, NM, Franconia Sculpture Park in Shafer, MN, and the UCROSS Foundation in Clearmont, WY. Jacobs attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH where she graduated with high honors for her thesis work and received the Perspectives on Design (POD) award.
