Discover the luminous, tactile world of encaustic painting in this intensive 5‑day beginner workshop. Using molten beeswax, damar resin, and pigment, students will learn how to build rich layers of color, texture, and transparency while working safely with heat tools and studio equipment.
We will also explore other techniques such as embedding photos and other collage materials, building up texture with accretion, and color exploration.
Each day includes a demonstration followed by plenty of guided studio time so students can explore techniques on multiple panels. By the end of the course, participants will have completed several small encaustic pieces and will feel confident to continue working with the medium in their own studios. No prior experience in encaustic is required.
*Materials and studio fees are charged to students based on studio usage and materials Touchstone is providing at the request of the instructor. Additionally, some instructors may also require that you bring certain materials and tools with you, in which case a list will be provided. Final cost of these fees will be posted at least two weeks ahead of the workshop to be paid in full prior to check-in.

1. 8-10 Birch Panels or Encausticbord – you can have different sizes. Whatever you are comfortable with.
2. Absorbent collage materials (uncoated papers)
3. Assorted drawing materials (charcoal, pastels, pencils)
4. Journal to take notes and sketch
5. Any of your own personal tools or materials you wish to use
6. Apron (Optional)
7. Reusable water bottle
8. Sketch book
9. Pen/Pencil
