Derek is a ceramic sculptor who earned his B.F.A. from Indiana University- Fort Wayne, and earned his M.F.A. from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Derek has been an apprentice at Moravian Pottery and Tiles Works in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, a Kiln God resident at Watershed, Center for the Ceramic Arts in New Castle, Maine, and an Artist-In-Residence/ Teaching Faculty at the Armory Art Center, in West Palm Beach, Florida. He has exhibited his work regionally, nationally, and internationally. His work is in the permanent collections of the Kamm Teapot Foundation, Statesville, North Carolina, Keramiekon Collection of Contemporary Ceramics, Varazdin,Croatia, Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas, Edinboro University Foundation, Edinboro, Pennsylvania, Northern State University, Aberdeen, South Dakota, and Clay League of Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Florida. He currently teaches 3D Design and Sculpture at Purdue University, Fort Wayne and is also the Gallery Coordinator/ Studio Technician.
