2026 Touchstone Artist-in-Residence

Touchstone Center for Crafts Artist-in-Residence Program offers a unique environment for artists and makers to live and work within a creative community. For this program we are looking for self-motivated individuals who are seeking the time, space, and equipment to focus on their studio practice in the company of fellow artists and makers.  A qualified candidate for the program should possess a strong working knowledge and understanding of the equipment and tools used within their designated studio. No instruction is provided.

A $5 application fee is required for Touchstone residency applications.

2-Week Spring Artist Residency

May 18-June 1, 2026

$700 (Includes private lodging and studio access)

$150 refundable studio deposit (will be refunded at the end of the residency)
*all fees must be paid in full 2-weeks prior to arrival.

  • 2026 Spring Residency application deadline is March 1.
  • There is a $5 fee to apply for Touchstone residencies. 

Limited Spots Available

Studio

Residency space is available in ceramics, small-metals, drawing/painting, writing, fibers, and other various mediums. Residents will have access to a shared studio space within the discipline that they are invited to participate. Consumables (i.e. oxygen, propane, etc.) and materials (i.e. steel, clay, etc.) for personal production are the responsibility of the resident and will be charged at cost. For a list of equipment please contact Travis Winters at twinters@touchstonecrafts.org. Studios will be prepped and ready upon arrival and a general studio cleanup will be scheduled for all participants the day before departure. 

Meals

No meals will be provided to Resident Artists, unless specified, throughout their stay on campus. Although Touchstone’s Dining Hall will be closed for the duration of the residencies, artists will have access to a fully equipped communal kitchen, grill, and dining area. Throughout the residency, artists often come together and periodically plan group meals during their stay. Residents are encouraged to explore the beautiful Laurel Highlands area where Touchstone is located. There are multiple grocery stores and restaurants within a 15-20 min drive from Touchstone’s campus. Due to the rural location of Touchstone’s campus. Due to the rural location of Touchstone’s campus, it is strongly recommended that participants bring a car to the residency.

Lodging

Private Dorm lodging is included with the residency fee. Linens can be provided at an additional cost of $50.

Check In/Out

Residents must check in on May 18th, between 12:00am-4:00pm in Touchstone’s Bea Campbell Gallery. All residents must be checked out by 11:00am on June 1st (Unless it has been discussed with Touchstone staff).

Safety  While on campus all residents must follow all Touchstone’s Safety Guidelines, Precautions, and Procedures. For a full list of all policies, please check Touchstone’s website www.touchstonecrafts.org. While in the studio all residents must follow the proper safety procedures for the given studio.


2-Week Summer Artist Residency

June-August, 2026

$700 (Includes private lodging and studio access). *Meals may be available for additional cost.

For the 2-Week Summer Artist Residencies, artists may apply for a 2-week span between the months of June and August. 

  • Applications for Summer Residencies will be accepted from March 1-April 1.
  • There is a $5 fee to apply for Touchstone residencies.

Studio

The 2-Week Summer residents will be working out of a shared mixed use space. This space can accommodate artists working in ceramics, drawing/painting, writing, fibers, and other various mediums. Consumables (i.e. oxygen, propane, etc.) and materials (i.e. steel, clay, etc.) for personal production are the responsibility of the resident and will be charged at cost. Before arriving to campus all Residents must join the orientation Zoom Meeting with TCC staff to go over all studio and campus safety procedures. While in the studio all residents must follow the proper safety procedures for the given studio.
