Glenn Horr’s interest in forging metals began in a high school shop class. He is primarily self-taught and continues to add to his repertoire of skills by attending workshops and blacksmithing conferences. He began his business in 1977 doing craft shows and making custom work. Glenn grew up in the northern panhandle of West Virginia and moved to Berkeley Springs in 1984. He was the 2005 Touchstone Center for Crafts Artist of the Year and has taught blacksmithing classes there since 1978. He has also been an invited demonstrator for several blacksmithing groups.

Glenn will be teachingIrons in the Fire’ at Touchstone from July 30–August 3, 2018. In this workshop, students will dive headfirst into blacksmithing while enhancing skills in functional metalwork! Instruction will include building and using a coal forge fire, basic hand forging skills, drawing out, scrollwork, twisting, basic tool making, hole punching, forge welding, and finishing work. Using skills learned, you will finish hooks, barbecue tools, letter openers, leaves, and small hand tools—including punches and chisels. This workshop is suitable for All Levels.
