Directions to Touchstone

Please DO NOT follow GPS or online directions leading to Touchstone via Scott Run Road. This road is in a state of severe disrepair and is not the recommended route for driving to Touchstone. Please refer to provided directions when traveling to campus. 

From the Pennsylvania Turnpike  

Exit the Pennsylvania Turnpike at Exit 75. Take the exit ramp to Route 119 South toward Connellsville. Follow Route 119 South to Uniontown. Stay on Route 119 South to Route 40 East. Do not take any exits off of Route 40. Follow Route 40 to the top of the mountain. The Summit Inn Resort will be at the top of the mountain on the right-hand side. Continue on Route 40 East for another ½ mile, then make a right turn onto Wharton Furnace Road. Travel on Wharton Furnace Road for 5 miles. You will see a small white church on your left. Turn right into Touchstone’s entrance, about 100 yards past the church. 

From Washington, DC  

Take I-495 (D.C. Beltway) to I-270 northwest to I-68 West at Hancock, Maryland. Follow I-68 West to the Uniontown/Route 40 exit. Take Route 40 West to Farmington, Pennsylvania. Stay on Route 40 West approximately 5½ miles. When you see a sign that reads “Dangerous Mountain Ahead,” get into the left lane. About ½ mile after you pass the sign, make a left turn from Route 40 onto Wharton Furnace Road. Travel on Wharton Furnace Road for 5 miles. You will see a small white church on your left. Turn right into Touchstone’s entrance, about 100 yards past the church. 

From Baltimore, Maryland  

Take I-70 East and exit the I-68 West/US 40 West exit. Take the US 40 West exit, Exit 14B, toward Uniontown. Stay on Route 40 West for approximately 20 miles. When you see a sign that reads “Dangerous Mountain Ahead,” get into the left lane. About ½ mile after you pass the sign, make a left turn from Route 40 onto Wharton Furnace Road. Travel on Wharton Furnace Road for 5 miles. You will see a small white church on your left. Turn right into Touchstone’s entrance, about 100 yards past the church. 

From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Airport) 

Take route 60 East to I-79 South to Washington, Pennsylvania. Take I-70 East and exit at the Route 51 South exit. As you approach Uniontown, you will see Fayette Plaza and Giant Eagle. About ½ mile past the plaza, bear right onto the Route 119 South/Route 40 East exit. Take Route 119 South to Route 40 East (do not get off on the Route 40 Main Street exit). Follow Route 40 to the top of the mountain. The Summit Inn Resort will be at the top of the mountain on the right. Continue on Route 40 East for another ½ mile, then make a right turn onto Wharton Furnace Road. Travel on Wharton Furnace Road for 5 miles. You will see a small white church on your left. Turn right into Touchstone’s entrance, about 100 yards past the church. 

From Morgantown, West Virginia 

Take I-69 East out of the Morgantown area. After 2.7 miles, take exit 10 toward WV 857/Cheat Lake/Fairchance Road. Turn left onto WV 43 North and continue 2.7 miles to PA 43 North. Follow PA 43 North (partial toll road) for 11.8 miles and exit onto US 40 East toward Hopwood, Pennsylvania. Drive up the mountain, approximately 6 miles, and note the Summit Inn Resort at the top of the mountain on the right side. Travel another ½ mile, then turn right onto Wharton Furnace Road. Follow Wharton Furnace Road for 5 miles. You will see a small white church on your left. Turn right into Touchstone’s entrance, about 100 yards past the church. 

Transportation Services 

Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements. Touchstone does not currently provide transportation services and is not able to make travel arrangements for students. Furthermore, Touchstone is not responsible for any nonrefundable airline tickets, other prepaid travel arrangements, or any other costs associated with traveling to/from our campus. Students interested in carpooling with other students attending the same session can place their name on a travel inquiry list with Touchstone’s office.

To help you plan your trip, we’ve included some transportation information below as well as directions.

  • Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is approximately 89 miles from Touchstone. Driving time takes about 2 hours one-way.

You may be able to find a connecting bus service from the Port Authority site above to this service. FACT runs to/from specific areas of Pittsburgh to Uniontown, then Uniontown/Nemacolin. The closest drop off is at Chalk Hill (Subway) about 4.5 miles from Touchstone. This service does not run directly to Touchstone’s campus. We do not advise walking to our campus for safety reasons.
