Directions and Location Information
Christian W. Klay Winery
412 Fayette Springs Rd.
Chalkhill, PA 15421
Located just off the Historic National Road (Rt. 40) and 5 miles from Touchstone
Winery owner Sharon Klay and her husband John first developed an interest in winemaking while living in New York City in the 1970s. This interest led them to research and select the nearly 100 varieties of grapes that would be suitable for cool climate growing conditions.
When the Klay’s relocated to Pittsburgh, they searched for three years to find a suitable vineyard site. In 1986, the couple purchased a 215-acre farm in Chalk Hill, Pennsylvania and in 1995, Fayette County’s first commercial winery opened.

Nemacolin Castle
136 Front St
Brownsville, PA 15417
Located just off the Historic National Road (Rt. 40) on the bank of the Monongahela River
Nemacolin Castle, also known as Bowman's Castle, was built in present-day Brownsville, Pennsylvania, at the western terminus of the Nemacolin's Trail on the east bank of the Monongahela River. It was built around the original trading post, which was built near the site of Fort Burd, the latter built by British colonists during the French and Indian War. Construction on the castle, including addition of a crenellated tower, continued through the Victorian era, when it was considered an engineering marvel.
